During the first quarter we were tasked with coloring a background. The line art was already complete, we just had to choose a time of day and where the light sources would be. I choose to set the scene at night with the lamps turned on and light coming in from an open door of screen. All things considered I am very happy with the way this turned out. Decorating the beds of the different kids with their hypothetical personalities was fun.

There are a few things I would change looking back at it now though, some of these examples were critiques from class others were just my observations. For example the lighting is a little inconsistent in places; the bottom bunks pillow, the stand of the lamp on the top bunk, and the boxes by the foot of the bed. The shadows by the window are also to dark and obscured it too much for how much light is coming in through the door.

While the semi line less style looks good, there are a few places where having greater contrast would be beneficial. Like the chest of drawers and lines of the bed frame.

The things I am most pleased with in this coloring are the way the posters turned out, I think the line less style really looks good there. The patterns on the two boys blankets, it took me a bit to not make them look like stickers I just pasted on. The added warnings on the chest and the subtle texture i placed over the whole image just really gave it a more cozy feel.

Honestly I was not looking forward to this assignment, but now after finishing it I can confidently say I had fun (most of the time). I'm looking forward to learning more about backgrounds in the quarters to come.
