Before the second break we had two full days of PDW. There was a lot packed in the time we had, so I will only be focusing on the second. We had an online discussion with some grads who now work in the animation industry or do freelance work. They told us a lot about how things work in the industry, going over the different types of jobs they all had and how they got there. One was a build artist for Rick and Morty, another just got hired at Titmouse, one was working freelance and two were junior animators from Yeti Farm. I was definitely surprised by the variety of jobs they all held, it was also interesting to learn how covid has affected the working environment. We also learned some useful statistics about quota's, hours and salary. For the two working at Yeti Farm they had an average quota of 50 seconds each week, 40 hour work week and a starting salary of 19 to 21 dollars.       The differences in hiring were also interesting, the two at Yeti F...

During the first quarter we were tasked with coloring a background. The line art was already complete, we just had to choose a time of day and where the light sources would be. I choose to set the scene at night with the lamps turned on and light coming in from an open door of screen. All things considered I am very happy with the way this turned out. Decorating the beds of the different kids with their hypothetical personalities was fun.  There are a few things I would change looking back at it now though, some of these examples were critiques from class others were just my observations. For example the lighting is a little inconsistent in places; the bottom bunks pillow, the stand of the lamp on the top bunk, and the boxes by the foot of the bed. The shadows by the window are also to dark and obscured it too much for how much light is coming in through the door.  While the semi line less style looks good, there are a few places where having greater contrast would be b...

On November 16 we had Todd Ramsay, the owner and chief creative officer of Yeti Farm come speak to us.      Yeti Farm is an animation studio based out of Kelowna. They have made many cartoons over the years including; Pete the Cat, Hotel Transylvania Series, Dorg Van Dango, Rocket Monkeys and a new soon to be released cartoon called Summer Memories.      During his presentation Todd told us about how he got into the industry and some insider knowledge he has gained throughout the years. What struck me most in the beginning was him stating he wasn't the best artist, and his difficulty getting his first job and how much he needed to put himself out there.       I knew that getting your first job would always be hard, but seeing how persistent he was really made me feel motivated. I think that's what really stood out the most was just how persevering he was. He was given critiques and had to do many revis...
